As another hot, dry summer wraps up, The Venny grounds are telling their usual end-of-season tale—one filled with laughter, creativity, and the unmistakable squeals and splash of kids playing with water.

Because let’s be honest: when it’s hot enough to fry an egg on the footpath, water isn’t just a way to cool down, it becomes the main character.

This summer, things escalated quickly. What started as an innocent spray from a hose turned into… well, organised chaos. The good kind. Tyres were stacked into a DIY paddle pool (move over, luxury resorts); hoses became high-powered entertainment systems, and sprinklers? Let us just say they were working overtime as both garden tools and joy generators.

And then there was the masterpiece: a homemade water slide. Crafted from a long sheet of builder’s plastic and a hill (plus a healthy dose of bravery), it became an instant crowd favourite. Equal parts thrilling and slippery, it delivered maximum fun with an element of risk—just how we like it.

But it wasn’t all splashing and sliding (okay, it was mostly splashing and sliding). Water play also sparked curiosity and creativity. Kids experimented with how water travels through pipes, chased tiny rainbows in the mist, and even whipped up their own “perfumes” using flower petals and water.

These moments are where magic happens. No instructions, no rules—just curiosity leading the way and learning sneaking quietly behind it. Science, problem-solving, sensory play… all disguised as having an absolute blast.

Why Water Play Matters (aside from being extremely fun)

At The Venny, water play isn’t just about staying cool, it’s about access. Many of the children who visit don’t have easy access to outdoor spaces where they can run, play, and yes, get completely soaked without someone yelling “NOT INSIDE!” Here, they can.

And while it might look like pure chaos (again, the good kind), there’s a lot going on beneath the surface. Water play helps build coordination, confidence, teamwork, and even emotional wellbeing. This summer, we saw kids step up, helping fill the pool, deciding together when it was time to pack up, and taking care of shared spaces.

Those moments, sharing, collaborating, looking out for each other, are just as important as the fun itself.

And simply put…

There’s something timeless about kids and water. It’s instant joy. It’s contagious. It’s impossible to ignore (especially when you’re within splash range).

At The Venny, that joy isn’t just allowed—it’s celebrated. Summer after summer, splash after splash. And honestly? We wouldn’t have it any other way.
